Church of St. Thomas, near the market in the town of Chichicastango is the Church of St. Thomas (Iglesia de Santo Tomás), built in 1545 on the remains of a pre-Columbian temple, and used by local religious people to perform traditional ceremonies. Each of the first 18 steps of the church symbolizes one of the Mayan calendar months.

Liberty Incident Lecture by Yoram Sharet

On June 8, 1967, on the fourth day of the Six Day War, the American intelligence ship “Liberty” was attacked off al-Arish by Air Force planes and Navy torpedo boats.
The ship was heavily damaged and 34 crew members were killed.
Since then, allegations have been made that the incident was caused maliciously. Our lecture is based on the book by Col. (Dim) of the U.S. Navy, Dr. A. Kristol, “Liberty Incident – Concluding Inquiry,” which proves without a shadow of a doubt that the attack was made inadvertently.
What actually caused the incident? A series of failures on both sides, or as Kristol wrote – was enough guilt to divide CWL.
In the lecture we will address these failures; Failures that can happen, and happen, even today.
The presentation will include photographs, maps, drawings, excerpts of documents (including diaries of operations), and recordings of communications by H.A. and H.I.

Yoram Sharet, Sailor, Judge at the Sailing Association and Skipper, Editor and Translator, worked for two years to translate Kristol’s book while adapting it to the Israeli reader

A must-see place if you are in the grumpy islands. The entrance is through a narrow and deep fjord. Arriving with another GPS it is difficult to detect the entrance. There is one platform that during low tide be careful that the keel can scratch the floor. When throwing an anchor it should be noted that the anchorage is deep (up to 25 meters) and the bottom shelf is steep, so it is difficult to find the correct position for dropping the anchor.
Located in two restaurants on the mountainside, a neat swimming area for vacationers and at the end of the fjord you can reach a picturesque and beautiful village and walk in it on agricultural land and orchards. The place is so beautiful that it leaves a good taste for a stay.

The new guest harbor is a short walk from the city center. The port is close to shops, a supermarket and more. At the entrance to the port and the canal out of the city there is a small mooring, exposed to the winds which is next to a caravan park. The services are shared by both.
The entrance requires crossing a bridge that is opened several times a day. You can check online when the bridge opens. Beyond that, crossing the river requires crossing a series of bridges. We were not really sure if they would arrive to open them on time. There is no complete clarity on the subject. At the end the bridges opened and we passed.
During the passage, one should carefully check the depths and on which bank of the river to sail. During the cruise you pass small barges designed for public sea transport. Attention should be paid to the depths in the passage of the bolts and if necessary then wait and turn.
The cost of mooring a 42-foot boat is 37-42 euros per night at the end of the season.
